In the case of the battleship in a belt there is a pretty high chance that any response fleet is disorganized and will not get there in time, however it is vital to be aware of what could go wrong and be prepared. Having a dedicated pilot spamming the d-scan looking for incoming hostiles would be a possible way of preparing for a possible organized response fleet. If you see something incoming that doesn't feel right...then bail.
